Album Review - It Ain't Me Babe by The Turtles (1965) (White Whale Records)

In the mid 60's there were three prevailing trends:

1.  Early hit single? Yes? Release an album out as soon as humanly possible Earning potential was the most important consideration.

2.  Not enough album ready songs to release the above album? Worry not...Call 1960's super-hero Bob Dylan to save the day with a plethora of his 'cover ready' folk tracks. He was effectively 'CoversMan'.

3.  Be a bit jangly like The Byrds.

Album Review - Turn! Turn! Turn! by The Byrds (1965) (Columbia Records)

As a twenty something I was the definitive music snob. If one of my favourite 'unknown' bands dared to even consider courting a bit of critical acclaim, I could, and often would, devote my attention elsewhere. Similarly if the same band even momentarily considered leaving my current favourite little known 'tiny records' label and sign for a major...well they were literally dead to me.

Album Review: It Happened by Paul Martin (1996) (Label: Distortions Records / Guersson Records)

At the time of release my jangle inclinations had veered from the 80's British Post-Punk , through whatever guitar sounds Sarah Records decided were cool in the very early 90's and were now stubbornly avoiding Britpop by concentrating on the mid-90's Thousand Yard Stare, Kingmaker and The Frank and Walters incarnation of jangle-pop..

However, just as the above three bands were falling out of fashion, along came this album. It was released in vinyl format only by committed psyche-rock specialists Distortions Records and were re-mastered versions of just two singles and a dozen demos.
